Day 4 (I had to call in the big guns)

Day 4

My sister-in-law, two nephews and niece were in town!! 

We had a lot of fun. We went to a knife shop, a BB gun museum and the water park. 

In between times of being tourists, we worked on the bathroom.
Her and her husband have been working on their house for a while now. She knew how to change out light fixtures!!



Safety First!!



I finally got it all painted blue and we got all the lights up!





We got everything put back up and the bathroom is in working order!

Thanks to my daughter Olivia and my niece. They repainted my shelves and mirror!

Everything is clean and fresh looking. I love it!

Day 3 (Goodbye Hooker, Whore Red!!!!)

Day 3

I get very anxious when I have a lot going on, sometimes my anxiety fuels me to get things done, sometimes it makes me want to take a nap.

On this day I had all the bathroom re-do projects going on. I also had a math conference I was presenting at the next day. My sister-in-law and my two nephews and niece were coming the next day also. I was really felling the time pinch coming down on me. I was at a do or die moment. 

Everyone that knows me, knows I don't ever drink coffee.

Day 3 of the bathroom re-do, I needed a little motivation. I went by Starbucks (again, I never go there)

And I got this Baby!!! 

So, it is either manna from heaven or they are doing something illegal.

Say goodbye to the hooker, whore red walls! 

I primed everything!

Primer looks so yucky on walls!!!

And I got started painting the walls blue!!

Even though, it wasn't much. I did get a lot done!

Day 2

Day 2

(imagine Law and Order music, again)

My goals for today were:

1. tape off the ceiling

2. prime, prime and prime

Well, I did get the ceiling taped off. 

I also got about half of the room primed.

I am a mother of two (note the name of this blog, The FRAZZLED tales of a teacher and a mom.)

Every 5 minutes I was interrupted by something. 

You win some, you lose some.

Today I lost some.

(of my patience)

Day 1 (The Toggle Bolt's Revenge)

The day started out easy enough. 

I had had simple goals for the day:

1. remove all the switch plates, pictures, shelves, towel racks, etc.

2. wash the walls with bleach water

3. tape everything off

simple enough right?!?!?

NOPE!

Everything was going smoothly until I was taking down the towel rack. I had trouble getting one of the screws out of the wall. As you can see from the first hole, the dry wall was wrecked in the first place. 

I worked on it for a little while and decided I would come back to it later. 

I had gotten everything else done and taken down. I even took a break for a minute. 

I knew what I had to do.

I knew I couldn't just leave this screw dangling out of the wall like this. Joe would say I was "half-assin it"

I also knew I didn't want him to see this huge hole in the dry wall. 

I tried screwing it every which way. I just kept repeating "lefty/loosey, righty/tighty" and "OMG, Joe can't see this hole"

I finally started jerking and pulling with all of my might!

I heard things start cracking. I kept thinking "Well, if it was in a stud, it would have screwed out!"

Finally, I got the bolt out and I discovered the problem...

That, my friends, is a toggle bolt!!

I recently learned about toggle bolts from my father in law. I kept thinking he was saying "taco bolt"

He was hanging a hook rack in my laundry room for backpacks, purses, coats, etc. He told me when you are hanging something heavy and you don't have a stud, you need to use a toggle bolt. He also said the only way the hook rack would come out of the wall is if we pulled the dry wall out with the toggle bolt. 

Well, I found that out the hard way!

Thank goodness we had some wall putty in the garage. I was able to patch over the hole!

After this little hiccup, I was able to knock out the rest of my to-do list for the day!!

My goals for day 2:

1. tape off the ceiling

2. prime, prime, prime!!!!

Bathroom Re-do

I have lived in the same house for 8 years now and I haven't changed much of anything. Joe said something the other day that made me stop and think. He said "You know, when we got married this became your house too,". I guess I didn't really realize that since I have lived here so long. 

Joe has also been talking for about 3 years now about wanting to change the decor in our bathroom. I have liked it a lot, but it does seem dated. I have decided to redecorate/ re-do our bathroom. I started with a new shower curtain and bath mats. Now, I am re-doing the whole bathroom around the shower curtain and bathmats.

Please, wish me luck!! This is a new adventure. I haven't done anything quite like this. When I was in high school, I got my mom out of the house for a few hours. My friends and I repainted, added boarder and redecorated the living room. But, I have never put in new faucets or light fixtures.  I have also never had to cover up red paint before... I bought a good primer. I will update this post as I go along!!!

30 Minute, Easy, Kid Friendly, Cheeseburger Goulash

If most of you are like me, I am always on the lookout for quick easy, kid friendly recipes. Here is one I made today. It is becoming a fan favorite. Olivia asked for seconds...she never does that!

 Easy Cheeseburger Goulash

Ingredients:

1 lb of ground beef

1 small onion

1 packet of ranch dressing seasoning mix

1 lb of penne pasta

2 cans of cheddar cheese soup

1 can of diced tomatoes (I used the fire roasted kind)

1 cup of milk

salt and pepper to taste

shredded cheese (optional)

1. Brown ground beef and diced onion together in a skillet

2. Boil pasta

3. When the ground beef and onions are done, drain

4. Add ranch dressing seasoning packet to the ground beef and onions

5. Drain pasta

6. Add beef, onion and ranch mixture to pasta

7. Add the rest of the ingredients (2 cans of cheddar cheese soup, 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 cup of milk and salt and pepper) to the pasta.

8. Heat until warm

9. *optional* serve with shredded cheese on top

It's super easy, super fast and the kids love it!
